Commenting on this website is administered through Disqus, a widely-used website comment platform. Comment forms are located at the bottom of each page, below the text and footer. If you are reading from the homepage or search results, you will have to click on the post title or the time/date at the bottom of the post to see the commenting box.
Logging in with an account
Logging into Disqus with an account is the easiest way to comment, as it saves your information from visit to visit. You can log into Disqus with a Twitter, Facebook, or Google account if you already have one, or with a separate account created through Disqus, by clicking the colored circles below the comment box. If you don't have an account, you can create one with Disqus by entering your information under "Or sign up with Disqus". You must agree to Disqus's terms of service and privacy policy by ticking the appropriate boxes to sign-up with Disuqs.
Logging in, or creating an account with Disqus has the added benefit of allowing you to use the same account information on any website that uses Disqus. You will also receive notifications of replies to your comments, and be able to subscribe to comment threads to get updates when new comments are posted.
Guest/anonymous comments
Logging in with a service is not a requirement to comment, and guest/anonymous comments are always welcome. To comment as a guest, click under the "or sign up with Disqus" heading and enter the name you want to appear and a valid e-mail address. Your e-mail address is never published or made visible to other commenters. Per The LIRR Today's comments policy, all guest/anonymous commenters MUST supply a valid e-mail address. You must agree to Disqus's terms of service and privacy policy by ticking the appropriate boxes, even to comment anonymously.
Then, to bypass the registration process and post your comment as a guest, just tick the I'd rather post as a guest box. You may also need to complete a "captcha" human verification check.
Composing comments
Once you are logged in or have entered your information, you can join the discussion by composing your comment in the box next to your picture. Disqus supports most common HTML tags, including:

- <blockquote> Defines a long quotation
- <em> or <i> Defines italic text
- <strike> or <s> Defines strikethrough text
- <p> Defines a paragraph
- <span> Defines a section in a document

- <br> Defines a single line break
- <spoiler> Hides text until hovered over or clicked on
You can also upload images directly through Disqus by clicking the picture icon at the lower left-hand corner of the comment box.
