Weekend Trackwork: Manhasset Viaduct Bridge Timber Replacement

Weekend trackwork along the Port Washington Branch for the Manhasset Viaduct Bridge Timber Replacement program will impact train service on Saturdays & Sundays March 9-10, 23-24 and April 13-14, 2013.

Busses will replace trains between Great Neck and Port Washington.

Eastbound Customers
Eastbound passengers will board trains at their usual times and travel to Great Neck.  At Great Neck passengers will board buses for travel to Manhasset/Plandome or Port Washington and arrive at their destination roughly 25 minutes later.

Westbound Customers
Westbound Passengers will board busses at Port Washington or Manhasset/Plandome roughly 25 minutes earlier than usual to Great Neck where they will transfer to trains for the remainder of the trip (train times at other stations remain unchanged).


Just taking a look a the schedule it looks like there will be two busses, one to Port Washington and one to both Manhasset and Plandome (becuase Manhasset looks like it's on the way to Plandome).  There's also a local bus that operates a little later that connects Manhasset, Plandome, and Port Washington directly.

This work taking place over three weekends is to replace some of the aging wood pieces along the Manhasset Viaduct, which spans the marshy area at the end of Manhasset Bay just to the east of Great Neck station.

The Manhasset Viaduct just so happens to be the highest rail bridge on the island.  It is also a big bottleneck for Port Washington branch service, but we'll discuss that in a separate post at a later time.
