New Service included in March 4 Timetables, Attempt 2

It appears that last week when I was making my "New Service included in March 4 Timetables" post I left out the poor 'ol West Hempstead Branch (as many frequently do).

Well, with the West Hempstead branch's five stations. handful of peak trains, lousy off-peak shuttle service, and paltry ridership (just under 2,500 daily boardings/alightings which is half of what the station of Valley Stream sees in a day) it's easy to forget this tiny, single-tracked branch.

But last week when I was talking about the service changes included in the March 4th timetables I left out a couple of changes to West Hempstead branch trains.

Back in 2010 when the LIRR changed a lot of its schedules to slim down on costs they did a little shuffling around of the AM peak West Hempstead train times.  And since it appears that the commuters did not like this shuffling, the LIRR decided they would unshuffle the times and put them back to pre-2010 patterns with this schedule change.

So the changes are as follows:
  • Morning westbound West Hempstead branch departures that previously left at 6:53a, 7:36a, 8:07a, and 8:54a, now depart at 6:53a, 7:16a, 7:36a, and 8:28a.  The 8:07a and 8:54a trains have been changed to earlier times.
May of the midday shuttle times have also been adjusted,  so be sure to check out the new schedule on the LIRR's schedules page if you make use of those trains over the course of the day.
For a complete list of changes with the March 4th timetable, check out this post.
