Today's been a rough day for New York City's various public transportation systems. With the snow storm last night the roads this morning were in pretty poor condition, and the area's railroads weren't doing so great either.
Last night a non-passenger train derailed near Forest Hills that subsequently messed up the morning and evening rushes with a handful of cancellations and diversions, and repairs could could take until Friday.
To add to the mess of this morning's rush, a Speonk-Hunterspoint Avenue Montauk Branch train fatally struck a person on the tracks near Mineola, forcing the LIRR to single track through the area for a couple hours until everything could get sorted out. The train eventually limped to Jamiaca, where it was canceled there.
This evening's rush had its fair share of messes too. For one, the Greenport Scoot diesel set was having equipment trouble (which is espscially troubling since there is only one 2-car set out there at any given time, and the nearest replacement is probably at Richmond Hill).
Another one of the region's railroads, PATH is also having trouble tonight thanks to some chunks of falling ice near their World Trade Center station forced them to close it for a while. As of 7:30pm, service to WTC has just resumed. Check the Port Authority's website for more info.
To add more salt to the wounds: FASTRACK on the Queens Boulevard Line shuts down a big artery between Manhattan and Queens beginning around 9ish too.
Furthermore, at a Second Avenue Subway construction site, a worker got trapped in the mud near 95th street.
It certainly has been wacky. Hopefully everything calms down soon!
it was a rough day out there today. i was on a train stuck behind that montauk one this morning. we ended up having to reverse back to carle place and switch tracks
ReplyDeleteMy train, which was cancelled and combined with another, broke down at Jamaica. Not a good week for the LIRR to say the least.
